FAQ

First Class:

If you are starting yoga for the first time, it is important to know your boundaries. First of all , you will have to acclimatize to the heat. Think of beginning this yoga the same way you would if you wanted to run a marathon. You would start slowly and eventually build up the stamina to run 26 miles. Look at Hot House Yoga the same way. While it is important to give 100%, recognize that Hot House Yoga is a process. You will go at your own pace, honor where you are and do your own practice. No one is judging you. Don’t worry about what other students are doing and don’t try to run a marathon on your first try.

What if I’m not flexible?
Yoga is NOT just for the fantastically flexible. In fact, if you are not flexible, if you cannot touch your toes, or perhaps cannot even see your toes, you are a perfect candidate for the benefits of yoga. This is the most common misconception that prevents people from coming to a yoga class. But yoga is not about how flexible you are. It is about stretching your body and spine in all directions. All that matters is that you try the right way, go to your personal “edge,” and you will get 100% of the benefit!

Why the heated room?

The heat combined with the sequence of the postures is what makes Hot House Yoga so special. The room is heated intentionally to warm muscles, which allows you to work deeper in a shorter amount of time, seeing results faster. Heat takes the trauma out of stretching, heals and helps prevent injuries. Also, your skin is the largest elimination organ in your body. Yoga is not just about working muscles. You are massaging deep tissues, glands, organs as well. As you work deep within your body, you may start to release “poisons” or “toxins” that have been stored there a long time. Sweating helps flush toxins from your body, giving you a wonderful glow from head to toe.

Do I need to drink water before class?

Drink plenty of water. You can lose up to 3-5 pounds of water weight during a class. This is NOT good weight to lose. It is easy to get dehydrated, so make sure you are drinking plenty of water after class and the entire day before you come to class. You are less likely to feel lightheaded or dizzy during class if you’ve had enough to drink in the hours preceding class.

How many times should I practice per week?

For real results, we encourage a minimum of three times per week. For life changing results, four or more times per week.

Can I lose weight practicing Hot House Yoga?

No matter what your fitness level, you will find Hot House Yoga very challenging. Each posture combines flexibility, strength, balance and has a cardiovascular component. The class will work your whole body from your bones to your skin. With persistence, patience, and dedication, you can lose inches, and develop muscle tone and strength that might never come from other forms of exercise.

Most people will lose weight, but more importantly they will lose fat and build muscle mass. You will see a general slimming all over: your clothes will fit better and your skin will glow!

What if I feel sore after class?

Didn’t know you had a muscle there? Congratulations, you have utilized 100% of your body. You are on the way to regaining your birthright: using your body in the full range of motion that it was designed for. Muscle soreness is a buildup of lactic acid. What’s the best way to get rid of the lactic acid? Stretching. It may seem impossible to imagine that coming back for more will help, but it is THE BEST way to relieve the soreness. If you wait too long to come back to class, then you will be starting all over again.

What should I do after class?
• Cool down
• Drink plenty of water
• Come back the next day, even if you’re sore.
